SoundCloud has released new data underscoring the strong engagement levels of its electronic music fanbase, with detailed insights shared during this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) by SoundCloud representatives alongside Dutch producer Mau P.
According to a report by Billboard, electronic music fans on SoundCloud are notably more active than other genre listeners: they are 52% more likely to comment on tracks, 104% more likely to share, and 85% more likely to repost music. This engaged community is fueling a significant rise in electronic music uploads and plays, with projections indicating a 21% increase in electronic uploads in 2024, following a 6% growth in plays since 2022. Electronic genres are anticipated to comprise 22% of all SoundCloud plays by year’s end.
House music stands out as the most popular electronic subgenre on the platform, boasting the highest play counts, longest average listening times, and largest listener base. Hardcore follows with the second-highest play count and listening duration, while trance, experiencing a resurgence, ranks second in audience size and third in plays and listening time.
Perhaps the most striking insight is trance music’s rapid ascent, with SoundCloud reporting a 24% increase in listening time for trance tracks and an 11% expansion in listener base since 2023. This makes it SoundCloud’s fastest-growing electronic subgenre, indicating a renewed enthusiasm for trance within the community.
