In collaboration with BBC Asian Network, this landmark panel marked IMS’s first dedicated focus on South Asian contributions to electronic music. Sunita joined esteemed panelists including Sofia Ilyas (The Beatport Group), Farah Nanji (IMS / N1NJA), and Shana Gujral (Family of East), with moderation by Amber Haque (BBC / KAKURA). The discussion delved into themes of identity, representation, and the evolving soundscape influenced by South Asian artists.

In Conversation with Fat Tony: Sobriety and Wellness in the Industry
Sunita hosted a candid dialogue with Fat Tony, exploring the challenges and triumphs of maintaining wellness and sobriety within the high-pressure environment of the music industry. Their conversation highlighted the growing need for support systems and open discussions around mental health and well-being in electronic music culture.
Industry Insights: Growth and Evolution
The IMS Business Report 2025, presented by MIDiA Research’s Mark Mulligan, revealed that the global electronic music industry reached a valuation of $12.9 billion in 2024, marking a 6% increase from the previous year. This growth is attributed to several factors, including the resurgence of live events, increased ticket prices, and the rising popularity of genres like Afro House and Drum & Bass.
Key Themes: Intergenerational Exchange and Cultural Dialogue
The overarching theme of IMS 2025 was Intergenerational Exchange, emphasising the importance of bridging gaps between industry veterans and emerging talent. Sessions focused on topics such as the evolution of global nightlife, the future of dance music labels, and health-related issues like tinnitus and hearing loss.
Notably, the summit featured discussions on Spain’s vibrant electronic music scene, highlighting its deep musical heritage and its role in shaping international trends.
